  1. I have been there millions of times. It's a relatively quiet place you can visit with your family. There are some bars and some nightlife, but you have to search to find sth of your taste. Halikidiki has beautiful beaches and a warm sea, but it 's not a wealthy area. There are some shops, which are mostly supermarkets and suvenir shops. You will not find any malls in Halikidiki! But don't worry. Suvenir shops and supermarkets sell everything you need! The restaurants serve quite tasty food, but be careful if you want to get fish -be sure it is fresh before you order some! Also avoid ordering mussels in restaurants -I don't mean they are usually bad, but I warn you because mussels are served in Halkidiki more than in any other Greek place. The weather is warm and sometimes (mostly in July) hot. It is sometimes a bit windy in the evening and at night near the beach, but not much.

  2. Hi,

A terrific choice! Chalkidiki is a big area, with many advantages!

It is very close to Thessaloniki,2d biggest city in Greece (airport there),has wonderfull and many many beaches, countless terrific beach bars, restaurants and shops of every kind, of course lovely weather, and....VERY GOOD PRICES COMPARED TO WHAT IT OFFERS! There are many islands and other places that offer much less and are far more expensive. Chalkidiki is the best holiday destination in Mainland Greece (beyond any exaggeration).

As Chalkidiki is a big area, there are many places that differe to each other. The Kassandra peninsula is the more developed part of Chalkidiki, full of beach bars, vacation homes etc etc and it is closer to Thessaloniki. The Sithonia penninsula is less developed but has more natural beauties, better place for someone who wants to relax from a noisy city.It is also much cheaper than Kassandra.

Between them, there are some very good destinations, such as Gerakini, Agios Mamas, Nikiti, Ormilia. At the eastern peninsula is situated a religional state, Mont Athos, an international world heritage monument and the 3d religional state in the world (along with Sina and Thibet). It is a gathering of many byzantine monasteries, and you need a special permission to ender or you can make the boat tour and admire the EXTREME natural beauties (hmm...better that waking up at 5-6am and washing dishes with the monks).

    Have a nice stay.

  3. Halkidiki is absolutely beautiful, but it's also very big and that means,  you either rent a car and explore it, or choose one of the villages that has what you are looking for(nice beach, good food, quite or with wild nightlife).

I went for a quick swim 2 days ago. The weather was ok, a bit windy but the sea still very warm - they say it will be very hot this weekend. The weather is not so stable in September. To rain is a possibility and the temperature is about 30C.

The biggest tourist wave left Halkidiki before September came so it's more quiet now and cheaper too if you search enough. Halkidiki is generally a bit expensive, for shopping (and nightlife) Thessaloniki is ideal. You can also shop at big villages like Hanioti, Pefkohori, Kalithea, Fourka, Marmaras, Nikiti.

For great nightlife Kalithea is the best during summer, but I don't think it's so crazy now. Maybe in Pefkohori and Hanioti where there are still foreign tourists the bars will still be full.

The food is generally great if you eat where Greeks eat, and watch the price list, to avoid surprises.
