Hall Green’s early races supply fans with triple the action
Some of the greatest things in life come in threes. At the Hall Green Greyhound Stadium, there were three wise greyhounds with three identical odds, with all three getting top three finish.
The three wise greyhounds in question were Tio Marco, Cape Scar, and Hiro. Each one was billed as a 3-1 favourite to win the 480m A8 race that began an action-packed day at Hall Green.
An accurately-placed trifecta bet would have resulted in a big payday, as these three dogs were the top three finishers in this race.
Tio Marco placed first with a time of 29.62 seconds, while Cape Scar was a neck’s length behind him in 29.64 to lock up second place. Hiro closed out the top three by taking third place
in 29.78. He was 1¾ lengths out of the number two spot.
Westview Gypsy, the 7-2 long shot in this race, finished fourth in 29.88. A crowded start gave her an early pace, and she ran on to finish 1¼ lengths out of the top three. Finishing 1¼
lengths behind Westview Gypsy was fifth-place finisher Minglers Annie (6-1). She moved very slowly away from the rest of the pack, and ran on late to complete the race in 29.98. Azzurri Miley (5-1) was handy to third, but faded fast. Her finishing time of
30.32 placed her 4¼ lengths out of fifth place.
The A6 race that followed saw a strong performance from a highly favoured contender. That contender was Compass Joe, the 9-4 favourite. Coming out of trap six, Compass Joe did not need
a GPS to find his way to victory. After moving slowly away, he led three-quarters to finish on top with a time of 29.81. Caribbean Cruz (7-2) cruised to a second-place finish that was 5½ lengths behind the winner. He crowded fourth and went on to finish in
30.25.
Global Plan’s (5-1) plans for victory were put on hold as she crowded the quarter and second. But she rebounded quickly to take third place in 30.39, which was 1¾ lengths behind Caribbean
Cruz. Fourth place went to Stormy Cain, the 11-4 long shot. His 30.47 finish was a single length out of the top three. Zafrons Ciara (6-1) came in fifth place, finishing in 30.57. She was 1¼ lengths behind Stormy Cain. Finally, Lady Alpha (9-2) finished last
in 30.79, 2¾ lengths behind fifth place.
The three wise greyhounds of Hall Green Greyhound Stadium finished strong today, and they’ll be trying to replicate the feat when the races resume on Friday evening. The excitement is
slated to begin at 19:25.
