Hall of Fame Tennis Championship 2010; Mardy Fish won the title
The American tennis ace, Mardy Fish who was seeded number five in the Hall of Fame Tennis Championship grabbed the title on Sunday after knocking down the Belgian tennis player Olivier Rochus, the fourth seeded player with a 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 final victory.
Fish kept aside his annoyance at a close line call towards the conclusion of the set number one in the final match of the Hall of Fame tennis championship on Sunday to earn his fourth career trophy. The fifth seeded player from the United States of America entered this week ranked number seventy nine in the world as per ATP rankings.
''All you need to do is to focus on your ambition,'' he commented of the point. ''Of course you have to admit the fact that every single call is not going to be an ideal one. Everyone is struggling really hard to perform at their very best. I felt as if I was on the hard side of that”, he added.
On the last point of the set number one, Rochus smashed a return to the back corner. Fish seemed just ready to hit the ball. The chair umpire said Rochus succeeded in the game along with the set. At that point of the game, Fish started fighting and smashed his racket to the chair.
However, a positive thing for Fish in yesterday’s final match was that he managed to hold command in the best game of the final, falling down in the ninth of the third set of the match in order to rise up 5-4. He missed a total of three break points before ending it out with a forehand cross around the net.
''I wished to contest and play this game on my won conditions. I simply wished to either fall down or triumph in it on my racket,'' he commented of the main game. ''I've unfortunately lost a couple of heart break tournaments. It absolutely feels superb to grab one. I am certainly feeling on top of the world and expects to go ahead with the same level of confidence and courage in the future matches as well”, Fish added after his Sunday’s final victory over Rochus.
In the last game, Rochus fell down on a couple of break point opportunities. On the very last point, Rochus turned on a wide serve, hardly getting a back hand across the net before Fish managed a comfortable forehand cross in to finish it. He lifted both of his arms up in joy, moved to the fanciers at all four corners of the court and hugged a few of them as well in excitement.
Mardy Fished smashed a total of twenty four aces to grab the victory in a time period of two hours and five minutes grabbing his fourth ATP trophy and very first since March at Delray Beach, Calif back in 2009.
Rochus who is twenty nine years of age, on the other hand has moved to number sixty five in the ATP world players ranking this week. He had not missed even a single set last week until the big match.
“ I can't give any excuse as I am aware of the fact that I did play a bad game today, didn't battle hard enough," Rochus said. “The final two games were so tight Mardy pushed extremely hard towards the end”, he added after the match.
