Hall of Fame inductee Ernie Els still strives for more major wins on the PGA Tour – Golf news
Most recent inductee in the World Golf Hall of Fame, Ernie Els announced that he will still work hard to win more major championships.
The South African golfer was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame on Monday. Also known as the ‘Big Easy’, Els has now become the 16th Hall of Famer to compete in the Players Championship coming up this weekend. Els, who is given the name
due to his big size and smooth swing, is looking forward to what is known as the fifth major.
Surely getting a confidence booster after the ceremony, he wants to get back on track. Currently, he is not in the best of his forms even with the presence of a new putter. Els changed his putter to a belly putter and was really highlighted in the media
during the Heritage Tournament. The modifications did not really seem to work for him. Still in high hopes, he is hoping to add to his 62 victories worldwide.
Ernie Els has won three majors, six world Match Play titles and was also the highest ranked golfer at one point. Els said that stepping on the first tee at TPC Sawgrass will surely be a special feeling knowing he is a World Golf Hall of Famer. The Johannesburg
native also mentioned how odd it was to win the accolade while actively participating in golf. However, Els said that the induction will not change him and he will continue his hard work on the course.
“My form has been diabolical so far this year so I'd like to get that right as soon as possible, hopefully this week,” said Els. “But I feel so much drive in me, so much that I'd like to still accomplish in the game. I know time is running out but many players
in history have won quite a few majors in their 40s. I'd like to do that. I need a kick-start. I need to get going.”
Before attending the ceremony, Els took time out to write a glowing tribute to Seve Ballesteros on his website, who died early Saturday. He said that it was impossible to measure his contribution to the game.
