Question:

Hall of Fame?????????????

If Ron Santo ever makes it into the Hall of Fame, (which he shouldn't) will it be all out of sympathy? I mean, he never led the Cubs to win anything significant. All his homeruns were when they were either winning or losing 9-1. Mostly losing. LOL

  1. Santo is not a Hall of Famer. The most deserving player from Chicago to be elected is Harlod Baines.

  2. You either never saw him play or are too subjective to accurately gauge his talent. During his day NO third baseman matched his offensive output year to year. He was known as the National League Brooks Robinson, the only player better at the position the entire time he played. He hustled, had unusual talent, and, rare these days, presented a very positive image for the game. The childhood diabetes thing didn't come out until long after he retired. Match his totals to the other 3rd sackers who played when he did -- batting and fielding -- and you will see why he not only deserves to go in, it is an indictment of the current voting system that he is not already there.

  3. You're wrong, but this is no surprise. Established pattern, lifelong trend.

Santo had several walk-off, game-winning home runs, including in extra innings on consecutive days

    and once, a grand slam

And there's more to baseball than home runs.

"Pathetic" is better defined, one considers, as someone who keeps creating new, albeit similarly obnoxious and ill-named, Yahoo Answers IDs. Self esteem issues, most likely, or a lameass attempt to circumvent frequent and well-deserved banishment (the continuing demonstrated inability to take suspension like a man is obvious, understandable, and no doubt with basis). Please stop, I'm tired of blocking your bitter little avatar, and your one trick is well beyond expiry.

You're not worthy to hold the soiled paper towels Santo might use to clean dog c**p off his prostheses.

  4. Santo did fall short of the number of votes needed to continue on the ballot in his first (and only) year of eligibility by the BBWAA. It should be noted that he had the highest vote total of those who were dropped from the ballot, perhaps because the ballot included 10 future HOFers, who each finished ahead of Santo.

It was more a case of Santo being on the ballot at the wrong time, rather than not being good enough.

  5. You are my idol

  6. No he should not get in. If he does it will be out of sympathy period. Roger Maris isn't in either and he died. There are probably people out there that think he needs to be in too. Thurman Munson died in a plane crash, he shouldn't be in either. I think the Cubs honoring him is good enough, he is NOT a Hall of Famer. He played in an era where there were no really outstanding NATIONAL LEAGUE (edited for Chip)third basemen. Tony Perez went to the All Star game from 67-69 at 3b and it wasn't for his glove! (Zero gold gloves) He went in 68 and had only 18 home runs! I guess some of these guys would elect Joe Torre to the Hall of Fame as a player too!! Its hilarious!

  7. yes , it will be completely out of sympathy.. The cubs are just loser like others we know.

  8. You never know nowadays but there is one thing I know and that the Chicago White Sox are going to win the World Series.  I dont even know why they continue to play when we all know the outcome.  Why do other teams even bother?  It puzzles me that for sure.

  9. How many times can you ask this?

Kudos to Chipmaker, THE number one guy in this group.
