Hall of Famer Larry Robinson new associate coach of San Jose Sharks -NHL Update
San Jose Sharks seem to be on the right track as the Western Conference franchise hired Hall of Famer defenseman, Larry Robinson, as the clubs new associate coach a day earlier to the hiring of Jim Johnson, as the assistant coach.
Robinson’s appointment was made in an announcement by the team on Monday, July 9, 2012.
Being a part of the San Jose Sharks, general manager Doug Wilson has expressed his confidence in the former National Hockey League (NHL) defenseman and his abilities to rejuvenate the struggling hockey club. They even played together, giving Robinson’s capabilities
more than a worthy testimony.
"His resume speaks for itself," said GM Wilson. "There's nobody in this business that I respect more as a player, as a coach, or as a person than Larry. It's an exciting day for our organization."
San Jose Sharks easily have one of the best line-ups around the league, but now, the need of the hour is that somebody be brought in to make them better and for the Californian club, Larry Robinson seems to be the man that fits the description.
"As a hockey player, you need somebody you can talk to about different things," Robinson said. "Even if you're the best player in the world, at some point you have be told you're doing something wrong. My job is to make them not just good hockey players,
but better hockey players."
The defensive end of the Sharks squad really does need improvement as they gave up top level players last offseason. Playing with an assistant coach like Jim Johnson, who played under the renowned Dale Hunter with Washington Capitals last season, Larry Robinson
and Johnson may prove to be a great coaching duo.
Both are former defensemen of the NHL and have more than enough relevant experience when it comes to improving San Jose Sharks overall defence.
The additions of Mike Ricci as the development coach and Jay Woodcroft as assistant and Brett Heimlich as coaching assistant, San Jose Sharks continue to take revolutionary steps in order to ensure a top notch run in the 2012-2013 regular season.
