Hall of fame ceremony moved from May 2011 to January 2012 – NASCAR news
NASCAR officials have announced that the Hall of Fame induction ceremony has been moved from May to January for the year 2012.
Brian France, NASCAR chairman shared with media that the new time decided for the ceremony, will provide inductees in a sense of great attention of their own, being off-season will help as the races itself draws an attraction for race fans.
In 2010, when the inaugural induction ceremony was held a day after the all-star race, which covered a full week of NASCAR events and activities was facing difficulty for the top drivers to attend the ceremony making an odd day off.
“After holding the inaugural induction ceremony in May of 2010, we quickly decided a move to January would give this event a life of its own and would ensure the inductees garner the appropriate amount of attention from the fans, the media and the local
community,” NASCAR Chairman and CEO Brian France said. “In addition to this being the right moves for the inductees, we also feel like making this a standalone event will greatly benefit NASCAR fans across the country that are itching for news in the early
parts of the year.”
The new schedule will not affect on this year, 2011 induction ceremony is due to held two days after the all-star race on May 23 at Charlotte Convention Centre’s Crown Ballroom in Hall of Fame. Inductees foe 2011 are named as, Bobby Allison, Ned Jarrett,
Bud Moore, David Pearson and Lee Petty.
According to the revised date schedule of Hall of Fame ceremony the voting for 2012 will also be changed and held earlier on June 14, 2012 where the presentations will be heard and then ballots cast.
“The NASCAR Hall of Fame induction ceremony is the Academy Awards of NASCAR,” Tim Newman, chief executive officer of Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority said. “We believe we can complement the star-studded main event with a full slate of activities that
will draw fans from around the country.”
This ceremony is highly prestigious for NASCAR enthusiasts as well for the drivers racing for the glory of the victory hence for everyone being the part of NASCAR. The officials are planned to make this event more successful than before as January month
of gala at Charlotte.
Tim Newman said, “Race fans already flock to the Queen City in May and October. We plan to work with NASCAR, Charlotte Motor Speedway and the many motorsports businesses in the region to develop January into another must-visit time for the race fan and another
opportunity for us to fill hotels, restaurants and attractions.”
The confirmed date for the 2012 induction ceremony is yet to be announced by NASCAR officials.
