Halladay wins NL Cy Young in unanimous fashion
After a brilliant season where he dominated the National League, Roy Halladay was announced as the winner of the NL Cy Young award for 2010.
Having previously plied his trade in the American League, Halladay joined the Philadelphia Phillies last off-season and he never looked back dominating the National League from start to finish.
So dominant was the 33-year-old that he won his second Cy Young award in unanimous fashion on Tuesday night, receiving all 32 first-place votes from voters.
Halladay finished the season with career best 2.44 ERA – minimum 150 innings – 219 strikeouts and a 1.04 WHIP. Those stats were good enough to help him to a league leading 21 wins. Halladay also led the league in innings pitched, shutouts and complete games.
In May Halladay pitched the 20th perfect game in MLB history against the Florida Marlins retiring all 27 batters and striking out 11. He faced 993 batters during the season walking just 30, a record which dated back to 1923.
