Halloween Special:  Is Pakistan’s cricket digging its own grave?
On a cold dreary night of October, a 10 year old girl was shivering in a dimly lit corner of her small cold room in a remote valley of Pakistan. Her innocent eyes were rolled back with fear, her hand and feet as cold as ice.
A distant voice could be heard from a vintage radio set. The small girl shaking her pony tails in disbelief cried softly with fear holding the green and white flag. Her
safe world was crumbling in front of her.
She could not take it anymore. She wanted to run away but it was a dark stormy night. She was afraid of what was lying ahead but she was more scared sitting in the spooky room. She stood up knowing the dark forces have taken over her most prized possession.
She threw the radio set away from her and suddenly let out a frightening cry. It was over, it was all over.
This is not another Halloween story which is not that scary. But these are the feelings of every Pakistani cricket’s supporters and fans. Defeats, controversies, internal politics, announcement of retirement and then withdrawing the retirement- the lion
– hearted Pakistanis have seen it all. But after another loss against the South Africans, they cannot take it anymore.
It is a fact that Pakistan is a cricket crazy country like their arch rivals and geographically placed neighbours, India. Where http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 is shinning in all forms of cricket, Pakistan is shinning for all the wrong reasons. The men in green imploded for the umpteenth
time this year. And this strong statement is not only for their on – field performance but also for their off – field glories.
They have not given up any opportunity in boning their country. The fault does not wholly lie with the
humble players but with the mighty Pakistan Cricket Board or PCB as it is fondly known. The PCB is responsible enough to cause mayhem in the sacred sport.
The Pakistan cricket is termed as a problem–child, some calling it “Chucky”. It is horrifying, scary, and bloody. They have already deformed the very structure of the game and with the speed they are going they will surely kill the sport.
Everyone is in a ghostly dilemma. The selectors are facing a dilemma as to which players are to be selected. The captain selection is going down the drain as the subsequent captains are failing to deliver. The captains of the ship are cruising the wrong
way. It is dire time that Captain Jack Sparrow should take over the ship.
There are calls for either suspending or banning Pakistan from the International Cricket Council (ICC) for five years or more. This aspect of dealing with the problem is plainly wrong. When someone is in trouble, they should be helped rather than turning
their backs on them. The ICC is not only some official governing board, it is a haunted house where teams and their boards are under an eerie mist. A priest should be called in the home to ward off the acts of evil. It should be transformed into a compassionate
home where love and care exist to make lives easier and better.
Pakistan cricket has been battling with unpleasant witchcraft during the past five years. They have been cursed with match–fixing, ball–tampering, drug–offences, sledging, spot–fixing. The evil of terrorists also hit Pakistani cricket. Pakistan’s
South African coach, Bob Woolmer, also died under suspicious circumstances.
The lack of leadership is the main problem in the nightmare of Pakistan cricket. The PCB’s chairperson has become a laughing stock and he has become a clown that scares children at night. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 cricket is acting as the boogieman- you don’t know when it
might spring on you from under your bed. The PCB needs a list of reforms but foremost they need good, strong leadership.
Pakistan is playing their second ODI against the Proteas on 31st October. It is hoped that this Halloween, Pakistan might just surprise its country with a trick – or- treat.
