Halloween in the French Quarter - Post Katrina?

After Katrina, what was Halloween like in the FQ? I'm trying to figure out if I should make other plans or not. I already rented a house on Dauphine for that weekend and already booked my flight. Should I rethink visiting or stick with my plans?

  1. The one-night Mardi Gras that is Halloween in the French Quarter was back for last year (2007).  Even Halloween 2006 was well-attended, though not as much as before Katrina (like Mardi Gras 2006). Do wear a costume - any kind is fine and it's OK to recycle one from the past.

Consider visiting a haunted house:  http://themortuary.net/

There is also the Voodoo Music Fest in the last week of October:  http://www.thetenthritual.com/

Gustav is forecast to make landfall to the west of the city, and most of the New Orleans metro area should just get some wind and rain.  If the forecast is wrong it will be obvious.

Hope you have a great time!

  2. You might want to wait 2-3 days, wait for Gustav to do it's destruction, and decide then. At this time, we don't know what will be of N.O. or the surrounding areas until a few days!
