My fiance and I are thinking for marrying on Halloween 2009. What are some ways to incorporate the holiday(ie dressing up in costume) without it looking tacky? Pictures or websites helpful thanks!

  1. Set your guidelines early and inform your guests.  Incorporate fall into your decor: pumpkins, autumn tones.  You could use orange flowers and black ribbon/material.  I think it could be fun, if done tastefully!!

    Good luck!

  2. Make it a masquerade ball and everyone wears masks that are not too tacky like what they did in renaissance times.  That way it is not tacky and still fits the halloween theme.

  3. I agree that you should do a masquerade ball.  It is more classy and upscale (so your guests don't come dressed as something stupid), and then you can decorate to the likes of an old, creepy yet classy haunted mansion or hotel.  Have fun with it!

  4. that is sooooo cute!!! thats a really really good idea! have fun!!

  5. Why don't you have a masquerade ball rather than a typical halloween costume party?  That way people would still be dressed up but it would be much classier and a totally unique idea!

  6. I think this is a very clever idea and if you give it enough thought it will be a one of a kind thing that will be tasteful, and give you lasting memories.  Here are some cute ideas

    1) have the people that seat your guests dress in a butler like uniform, and if possible get your servers/caterers to dress as a butler/maid

    2) if you are serving little snacks between the ceremony theme them to halloween, like halloween shaped sugar cookies

    3) depending on the type and style cake, perhaps you can have the traditional white cake, but with tiny (like you have to be up by it, or zoom with a camera to see what they are) little black bats on the sides as opposed to the flowery pattern.

    4) try not to go too overboard with orange and black, use fall colors if possible for bridesmaid dresses OR have your attendants dress up as famous couples... your maid of honor and best man = cleopatra and antony, romeo and juliet etc

You can make this as silly or formal as you want... it is YOUR day, don't let anyone talk you out of it, or tell you it is dumb.  If you and the future hubby want to do it, do it!  It's your day, your memories.  I think it will be awesome!  I'm going to keep thinking of ideas, too. This is fun, too bad I'm married already! :)

  7. I would use "autumn colors" and have hints of Halloween like pumpkins and hay bails.  Then maybe do a masquerade party or don't do costumes at all just keep it an autumn theme.

  8. do a certain costume there maybe do things dont get too out of hand.  Like Victorian, a favorite movie, a certain era.  then do it around Halloween with a candy buffett and orange colored decor

  9. Here are some websites that should be able to give you a few good ideas. There are lots of ways to make it look really nice, but not tacky. You could also pick a specific Halloween costume theme - like maybe you could do a "Romantic" theme were people have to dress up as famous couples, etc.
