Halo 3 meta game achievements question.?

I'm new to the whole "meta game" experience.

me and 2 friends were playing coop on heroic. i had turned scoring on as well as 3 skulls, and we needed 15000 points (i believe the level was Tsavo Highway) also, the scoring was free for all, not team.

when the level started, i looked on the bottom right of my HUD, and saw that the multiplier was 3.00.

when we finished the level, each of us had over 5000 points before the multipliers were added. however, when all the multipliers (they added up to like 16.5) but we didnt get the achievement. whats up with that?

The 3 was for time. If you finished right then with 5,000 each you would get it but over time it goes down from 3 to 2.5 to 2 to 1.5 and then to 1. Hope this helps.
