  1. Winning ranked games gives you xp if you win and it raises your number level (Example: 32 current in Team Slayer, win a game, 1 xp towards your service record and you rank up to a 33.)

Social matches just give you 1 xp if you win and Double XP Weekend gives you 2 xp points everytime you win.

You get xp if you get.....

    1st/2nd in Rocket Race

    1st/2nd/3rd Rumble Pit/Lone Wolves

    Tie game

    Thats mostly it.

  2. Ranked games increases your highest skill(thats the number besides your rank)

Social games gives you experient points.

  3. Playing ranked games allows you to boost your skill ranking up, as well as earn experience points.  The skill ranking is the same concept that was used in Halo 2.  The number by your gamertag and insignia is your skill ranking.  The highest skill you achieve in any sort of ranked match is what allows you to be promoted.  While you need a certain about of experience points to rank up too, it normally just allows you to be a higher grade (i.e. Commander Grade 2).  Ranked games are for the more competitive gamers, normally.  Social games are intended to be more recreational and not quite as intense.  They only give you experience points and have no effect on your skill ranking.  I normally stick to ranked games and only go to social when I'm just messing around with some friends.  Anyway, I hope this answers your question.
