The game’s story also picks up right after the events of Halo 3 and the new trilogy will tie-in with the previous games in Microsoft’s iconic series.
Before there was Call of Duty and Battlefield, before there was Killzone or Uncharted and before there was Gears of War or Forza Motorsport, there was Halo. The game developed by Bungie and its iconic protagonist, known only as Master Chief, became the craze among first-person shooter gamers.
That was years and years ago, as Halo was a PC exclusive, however, with the release of the Xbox 360 all of that changed as Halo 3, Halo: ODST and Halo: Reach cemented the game’s status as one of the most iconic series in the industry.
Yet, when we last saw Master Chief he was entering cryogenic sleep, to be awoken when the universe needed him again. It seems Microsoft and 343 Studios have decided that they need him sooner than anyone would have thought as they are set to release a new trilogy under the Halo series; the storyline for which has already been pinned down by the developers.
“We have a definite story arc in mind. We have a very, very clear vision and understanding of the story for Halo 4 obviously and as you go further out from that point into the saga it obviously becomes a little looser.” Said Josh Holmes, the creative director at 343 Industries.
That was not all, as Mr. Holmes also assured fans of the series that the story would be a continuation of the previous games in the series. “Everything that we’ve created has been designed with constancy and tie-ins to the existing cannon. So all of the historical cannon that comes before this game has been taken into account and connects in meaningful ways.”
One can also expect a number of graphic novels and comics to be released around the game’s release as 343 confirmed that they had a team “developing the fiction that surrounds” the game.
It sounds as if the new developers are focusing on remaining true to what made the first trilogy so iconic while at the same time adding their own bits to it as well.
