Halter show question.?

will judges take off for scrs (battle scars) on their body? cuz my horse has pretty good bites on his body. they r small now but they r black and scabbed. one side of his body on his left flank is bad! will they take off for it. they all rnt that bad some r but they r scabbed over.

No, they should not be taken into account at all. Although horses in top show condition do stand out and catch the judges eye.

I wouldn't push it, they might call the glue factory out of what they consider the greater good.

For open and local shows, most do not go that much in depth.

The higher you go (state/national/world 4-H or AQHA, APHA for examples), it is not appealing in the cosmetic over all eye appeal.  Depending where those scares are, it also can depend if judgment of the horse's movement (internal injury) and temperament (fighter) and the owner's judgment (questionable why the quality and/or quantity is present).

I shown in enough shows to know that. I got feed back from a few judges (1 local show, the other 4-H state show) that the reason why I didn't place higher in the halter is because his over all appearance wasn't appealing due to the scars (at the time) on his back.  (He got caught and went under two cables when he was rolling. Scrap his whole entire back).  He is now has hair that covers the areas where scar tissue is; thankfully.

As for the boarding, you have completly control of when your horse is turned out. Due to "battle scars" I would recommend you saying he is to not be turned out with other horses, if you desire the boarding facility to turn him out or he stay in pasture with others, for you.   1) Liability of him getting hurt seriously: lameness or be put down to sever injury 2) showing: scars, lameness 3) You have control of what happens to your horse.

i dont know bout the points but if ur horse is brown and the cut aint open u can put shoe polish on it that matches his coat to cover it up even it he is white i think, go to a horse shop if u cant find white shoe polish

well it depends on what show circuit you are on....open shows are more lenient on blemishes The AQHA circuit, is tough, Halter horses are pretty much perfect. If you can for a few weeks before an important show try to keep your guy covered and if possible inside at night and only on turn out during the day. Hopefully will keep the mishaps down between horses.
