Hamburg's http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 confirm interest
Former Manchester United and Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy hinted he could be on his way to returning to the English Premier League in the summer. The 34-year-old will be out of contract with current Bundesliga side Hamburg at the end of the season
and he is expected to look for a challenge elsewhere.
Van Nistelrooy wanted to return to Real Madrid during the January transfer window but the move was not possible because Hamburg did not agree to a deal. However, he is still as determined on a move away, he admitted he would want to return to the English
Premier League or the La Liga.
The Dutch International said while speaking to reporters, “I am thinking about a nice club in England after this season. Or a club in Spain, but I don't think Real Madrid will come again after their efforts to bring me back in the January transfer window.”
He continued, “I have decided that if a really big European club does approach me, I will accept a role as reserve striker. I would have accepted that too if the deal with Real Madrid had come off in January. They knew I was ready to step in when needed.”
The Dutch striker joined Manchester United in 2001 for a fee of £19 million from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 Eindhoven and made an impact on the Red Devils in his very first season with them. In his five seasons at Old Trafford, Van Nistelrooy made 220 appearances and scored an
impressive 150 goals.
He left for La Liga giants Real Madrid in the summer of 2006 for €24 million, but only after putting his name down in Manchester United’s history books as the club’s top goal scorer in Europe. He was as successful at Madrid, leading them to the La Liga crown
in the 2006-2007 season.
Despite an extraordinary career, Van Nistelrooy has always been held back by injuries. He missed most of the 2004-2005 season while with Manchester United and his last two seasons at the Bernabeu. In the 2010 January transfer window he signed a short-term
contract with Hamburg, the 18-months of which are almost up.
Even though Madrid were interested in bringing back their former star striker during the January transfer window, they are not expected to be as keen in the upcoming summer transfer window. While Van Nistelrooy would surely love a return to Old Trafford,
it seems unlikely that Sir Alex Ferguson would welcome back the striker who is well past his prime.
However, Blackburn Rovers are interested in signing the Dutchman with the Blackburn boss Steve Keane admitting he felt the player still had a lot to offer. Keane said while speaking to reporters, “Yes, I can confirm we are interested.”
