Hamburg Sporting Director Frank Arnesen insists the club is preparing for the long-term

Hamburg SV Sporting Director Frank Arnesen has insisted that the club is preparing for the long-term and to be winning the Bundesliga title next year would be a far cry. He admitted that the supporters will have expectations in
the next campaign but it will be too soon to expect from a young team.
Hamburg have signed a host of young players in this summer’s transfer window which include four signings from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jeffrey-Bruma-c18265 and midfielders Jacopo Sala and Gokhan
Tore from the London giants and saw the departures of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294.
Arnesen claimed that the fans will be eager for their team to return to the top but admitted that the planning is long-term and the results will not show immediately. He stated that the club’s plan is to prepare players for the
future and invest in youth to set a benchmark.
“The fans want the title but we should not yet think about it. We must concentrate on developing something here. A city like Hamburg must be challenging and playing in European competitions,” he was quoted as saying in an interview
to Eurosport.com.
The former Chelsea Sporting Director claimed that Hamburg was at one time one of the biggest teams in Europe with the likes of Kevin Keegan in the squad and wants the side to return to that position in the next few years.
Arnesen admitted that German champions Borussia Dortmund are a huge inspiration for them as they have invested in the youth and the results have been fabulous.
“When I was young Hamburg was one of Europe’s biggest teams. We want that again. It is difficult to say how quickly we will achieve success - you only need to look at (champions) Dortmund to see where playing good football with
a young team can get you,” he concluded.
Hamburg will kick start the Bundesliga season and will compete against champions Borussia Dortmund on Friday, August 5, at the Signal Iduna Park.
