Hamburg SV manager Michael Oenning is confident that his side will be able to get a good result against Werder Bremen this weekend after a dismal start to the season. He claimed that the game is very important for them as the club
cannot afford any further setbacks.
Rothosen currently sit at the bottom of the Bundesliga standings table with three losses from the four games played and have conceded a staggering 14 goals in the four matches, scoring only six.
Oenning claimed that the match is of huge importance for the club as scoring points is necessary at this stage of the season considering the false start already. He claimed that the fans are already disappointed with the campaign
so far and is hopeful that the team can get something out of this match.
“For us, the game is extremely important. The team has an obligation. We need to score points. Bremen is the enemy, where the most important thing. I know how much this means to our fans,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The manager insisted that Hamburg’s priority at this moment is to get away from the bottom of the standings table. He admitted that they themselves are responsible for the poor performances and is confident that the situation will
improve.
“We want to get away from the end of the table, not a professional is like in last place. We got ourselves into the situation. Now we have to help ourselves to get out there again,” he continued.
However, Oenning admitted that the team’s biggest problem this season has been the poor defensive performances. He stated that his side has conceded way too many goals which has surely not helped the players gain confidence.
“Our biggest problem is that we concede too many goals. I urge now too rigorously that we no longer do certain things,” he concluded.
Hamburg will take on Werder Bremen at the Weserstadion on Saturday, September 10, in their fifth Bundesliga fixture of the season.
