Hamburg goalkeeper Rene Adler is ready to fight for his place in the HSV and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904’s starting line-up.
The former Bayer Leverkusen number one signed for Hamburg on a free transfer. Adler ended his twelve-year stint with the club, which he joined as  a 15-year old. He made 138 league appearances for his former club after coming up
from their youth ranks.
While still at the Bayer Arena, he was voted as Bundesliga’s best keeper in 2008. The 27-year old suffered an injury to his knee which all but ended his twelve-year spell at the club. Adler’s injury took him more time to recover
than it was expected; he suffered a few setbacks which held back his rehabilitation.
His place in the starting line-up was under threat from the impressive 20-year old Bernd Leno, who made the number one spot his own.
Adler spent around a year on the sidelines, and went through a lengthy rehabilitation process. He recently completed his free transfer to Hamburg, after proving his fitness. The 27-year old is expected to feature for his new club
at the start of the season but his place in the first team will not be certain, considering his injury record.
Due to his long-term absence from the game, the player is aware that he will not be an automatic choice for the number one spot. The Germany international knows he will face tough competition from Jaroslav Drobny, but is convinced
that he will fight his way into HSV’s starting line-up.
“Competition is part of football and first and foremost it comes down to performance. I'm not worrying about it right now. I am convinced that I will find my place within this team,” he is quoted as saying in an interview.
The former Werkself goalkeeper believes that if he manages to get into Hamburg’s first team then his next target would be to impress Joachim Low. Having only made ten appearances for his country, the goalkeeper is determined to
add to this tally.
“I am ambitious enough to target getting back into the German national team, but first and foremost I have to be successful with HSV. Everything else will hopefully follow on automatically,” he added.
After a long year on the sidelines, Adler’s new club will not rush him into action straightaway. His previous injury record suggests that he should be eased into the first team. The player has enough quality to bounce back from
the disappointments he suffered in the previous campaign.
