Hamburg's Ruud van Nistelrooy gunning for Bundesliga title
Hamburg striker Ruud van Nistelrooy revealed today that he is bidding to win the Bundesliga title this season.
His team has got the season off to a great start, having picked up eight points from four games, and remain unbeaten. That has led van Nistelrooy — who already has three goals to his name this season — to believe that he can help Hamburg to win the title
for the seventh time in their history and lead them to their first championship since the 1982-83 season.
The 34-year-old, who joined Hamburg from Real Madrid in January, told Sport 1 that, “You need to set high goals. We have a strong team. Why shouldn't I also win the league in Germany in the twilight of my career? That would be nice."
The striker added that he is looking forward to tonight’s home game against 2008-09 champions Wolfsburg, who won their last match against Hannover after losing their first three games.
Van Nistelrooy said that, "We want to play well and gain the three points after two draws. That will also make our fans happy."
Meanwhile, Hamburg has lost at least two of their regular first-team players for the match.
Coach Armin Veh will be forced into shuffling his side, since Jose Paolo Guerrero picked up a calf injury and Eljero Elia is suffering from a hamstring injury. Both players have been ruled out of the game.
But David Jarolim has a chance of featuring despite sustaining a dead leg. He may return to the starting line-up in central midfield, but Gojko Kacar is ready to fill in if Jarolim is not fit in time. Meanwhile, van Nistelrooy’s supporting trio of players
looks like it will be Mladen Petric, Piotr Trochowski and Jonathan Pitroipa.
