Hamilton Academical defender apologises for mistake

Hamilton Academical defender David Elebert has apologised to his team-mates for making the mistake which led to Inverness Caledonian Thistle's equaliser in the 3-1 loss at New Douglas Park on Saturday 13 November.

Dougie Imrie gave the home side the lead after 28 minutes and Hamilton were looking good bets for a victory that would have taken them off the foot of the table.

However, Elebert slipped up when he allowed a pass to roll past him in the 49th minute and Caley Thistle forward Adam Rooney pounced to restore parity.

The Irishman's misery over his error was compounded when Jonny Hayes put the visitors in front just three minutes later before Rooney netted his second after 59 minutes to continue Caley's record of not having lost on the road for 17 games.
Critical mistake turned game round

Elebert, 24, admitted that his mistake had been criticial and that his side were having no luck in their bid to avoid relegation from the Scottish Premier League at the end of the season.

He told reporters that: "My mistake set the ball rolling on the three quick goals by Inverness in the second half and that was the game done. I just misread the bounce of the ball on the turf and gifted them a goal. I said sorry to the boys in the dressing-room
and held my hands up for that one.

“As a team we just never got going in the second half at all. Obviously that's the reason we lost the game. We knew they would come back at us after the break but within 15 minutes they had scored three goals. It typifies our season and it's always the way
things go when you are down at the bottom. You never seem to get the rub of the green.”
