Hamilton Academical striker desperate to make impact
Hamilton Academical striker Derek Lyle says that he can play a key role in helping the club to avoid relegation from the Scottish Premier League and earn himself a new contract at the same time.
The former Dundee striker was handed a short-term deal by manager Billy Reid over the summer to prove his fitness after the 29-year-old suffered a cruciate ligament injury.
While he has made a full recovery, Lyle has only made four substitute appearances for the club this season and admits that he is running out of time to make an impression and help Accies move off the bottom of the table.
He told reporters that: "I like it at Hamilton. I like the boss, the players and respect the club for looking after me. They gave me six months to prove I could recover from injury and I've done that. The only thing I've not been able to prove is that I can
make a difference on the park. I feel ready to make an impact and want to do my bit to help the team get off the bottom of the table.
"I'm desperate to play again. When you nearly lose your career it makes you appreciate every second you are on the pitch. My contract is up in January so it's a crucial time for me. Hopefully, I'll force my way in the side and extend my stay. If I don't then
I'll have to look at my options and I may have to go elsewhere."
Accies are toiling in last place in the SPL after winning just two of their games in the division this term and drawing three. They are yet to win at New Douglas Park this term.
Their next chance to move away from bottom spot will come when they face Heart of Midlothian at Tynecastle on Saturday 20 November.
