Hamilton Academical striker tells defensive team-mates to improve or face relegation
Hamilton Academical striker Dougie Imrie has warned his team-mates at the back of the pitch to sharpen up quickly if they are to avoid relegation from the Scottish Premier League.
Imrie had put his side ahead in their SPL clash with Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Saturday 13 November at New Douglas Park, and the Accies had been looking like good bets to earn their third win of the season (which would have lifted them off the foot
of the table).
But a crucial error made by defender David Elebert early in the second half led to Adam Rooney scoring an equaliser for the visitors. Caley went on to win the game 3-1 after scoring all of their three goals inside 12 minutes.
As a result, Accies remain in last place in the SPL, one point behind 11th-placed Aberdeen, and will face a fight if they want to avoid dropping to the Scottish First Division.
In a bid to beat the drop, Imrie has called on his colleagues to stop losing easy goals and improve at the back of the pitch.
He told The Daily Record, "I can't put my finger on it but to concede three goals in around 10 minutes at SPL standard is not good enough. We are never going to get up the league if we are losing goals like that. The second half was not acceptable,
simple as that. We've got to stand up and be counted. We've all got to work together to get out of this place where we are at the moment."
Accies will next play Heart of Midlothian at Tynecastle on Saturday 20 November. Hearts have scored eight goals in their seven home league games this term, claiming eight points in the process, but their strong away record means that they are sitting in third
place.
Hamilton's two wins this season have both come on the road, but they have scored just six goals on their travels.
