Hamilton Bulldogs make history for winning longest AHL game
The Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League showed nerves of steel to win a tiring game that lasted over 100 minutes.
Dustin Boyd was the scorer of the goal for the Bulldogs with six seconds past in the third period. The goal was scored at the start of the third period this Monday night (May 9, 2011). This game was very important in many ways, as this was game seven of
the North Division Finals, as the Bulldogs were up against the Manitoba Moose.
The game was being played at the Copps Coliseum and witnessed the Bulldogs and the Moose level on 1-1 at the end of regulation. Game seven of the series certainly lived up to the excitement and gave the fans a lot of entertainment. There were a couple of
chances coming for both teams during the first two overtimes but they were unable to find the back of the net.
Unfortunately for the Moose, they were the team that was on the losing end of the game as the Bulldogs won the game 2-1, the series, and, the Division Finals.
Bulldogs are affiliated with one of the most well known teams in the National Hockey League, Montreal Canadiens. This is the second consecutive time that the team has managed to make its way into the Western Conference Finals.
The Bulldogs are still waiting to see who they will be facing in the Western Division Finals, as Milwaukee and Houston battle in game seven of the series to clinch a spot in the Finals.
This game was the 17th game in the history of the American Hockey League that saw game seven going into overtime to be decided. Not only this, but this game became the first in the AHL to go into the second and third overtime.
Boyd, who started the current season with the Montreal Canadiens, scored a superb goal that won the game for the team. Goal keeper, Eddie Lack, also came up with a brilliant performance that saw him making 55 saves during the course of the game.
