Hamilton Conquers Three out of Four Legendry Tracks
Lewis Hamilton thrusts his victory flag deep down at the Spa track. With his last Sunday’s victory, the driver has been able to return back to the top of Drivers' Standings, marking his third win of the year and fifteenth of his career.
The 25-year-old's conquest at Spa adds another feather to his cap as he had already won races at the other two most historic circuits of Formula One calendar; Silverstone and Monaco. The last track he has to triumph over is Monza, at the Italian Grand Prix where he would be racing the next round of the season.
These four races, namely Monaco, British, Belgian and Italian Grand Prix, are the only ones that are still surviving, since the start of Formula One calendar in 1950. Moreover, there are only eight drivers in the past 60 years who have been able to win a race at all the four tracks during their careers. These include Michael Schumacher, Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost, Jackie Stewart, Niki Lauda, Juan Manuel Fangio, David Coulthard and Jody Scheckter.
As Hamilton prepares himself for next race, he told the media, "I've never won before at Monza." Monza is a very historic track. It lies close to the head quarters of Ferrari, the Italian Formula One team. Well, all the drivers of course wish to win every Grand Prix yet there are some tracks where winning means much more than the others and the above four lie on top of all the others, not only because of their historic value but also due to their layout.
McLaren has usually performed well at Monza in the past and this year again they are hoped to do good as the track with its long straights should serve their car well. Moreover, Hamilton said that their upcoming races at Singapore and Japan are also going to be two tough ones as those tracks demand a high down force. He continued that the next few weeks would be real hard for them as the entire team plans to work round the clock to set-up their car for high down force.
If McLaren kills out that threat there are grave possibilities that the final tug for the title would be between Hamilton and Mark Webber of Red Bull. Webber is surely far more experienced racer on the tracks of Formula One yet such a close title fight would still be new to him. At the last race, as three out of the top five racers Sebastian Vettel, team-mate Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso failed to collect any points, the chances of a second title for the 25-year-old seem evident.
