Hamilton and Whitmarsh ready for the Spa Grand Prix
The 2008 formula one world champion Lewis Hamilton has said that he is ready to launch a comeback for his title bid this season as he is charged up and raring to go after the mid-season break. The McLaren driver said that his team has worked on the short comings of the car, and has finally found the mantra to get the optimum performance out of it.
Hamilton is currently just 4 points behind the table topper Mark Webber. Formula one 2010 season took a 4 week break after the Hungarian Grand Prix. There are 7 more races to go in the season, and the world title is still up for grabs. There are at least 5 contenders for the title and all with an equally good chance of winning it. The season will resume this Sunday at the Spa Circuit in Belgium. The race is probably most important for McLaren if they are to continue their title hopes. The Britain-based team hasn’t been at its best during the last 3 races. It lost ground on the driver’s and constructor’s table. The cause of concern for this team lies in the fact that there was a significant difference in pace between McLaren and Red Bull at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
However, the McLaren team is hoping that Spa would suit it well; the long straights are believed to be ideal for McLaren cars. The team is also optimistic about the next race that is in Italy. It would be the final European race of the season. McLaren says that the next 2 races would be most important for its title aspirations. But if it fails to make any headway in them, it would be a real steep task to make a comeback during the final 5 races of the season. Hamilton said that the break probably came at the right time for him and his team as the last 3 races before the break hadn’t been the best for them. He added that the break had given his team time to rethink their strategies and also gave the engineers time to test and check the problems with the car. He stated that he has been assured by his team that all the issues have been taken care of, and the rest of the season should be a good one.
The youngest F1 champion said that there was immense optimism in the team regarding the next 2 races and there is also a strong belief that their 2 cars would be able to match the Red Bulls and Ferraris in terms of pace. Martin Whitmarsh, the team principal at McLaren also shared Hamilton’s views and said that he is convinced that the problems have been taken care of, and the last 7 races would be great for his team. He added that Hamilton and Button both have an equally good chance of winning the world championship. Whitmarsh said that it is an amazing thing to have 2 drivers in the team who are in contention for the title, however, he clarified that amid the rumors, there is no favorism in the team and neither is there any animosity between his 2 drivers. He further added that both of them have been facilitated equally and the pair gets along fine as they both are pure professionals.
The team principal said that he has been personally taking interest in the up gradation of the car and he is confident that his Engineers have finally managed to catch up and the results would be there for everyone to see this weekend.
