Hamilton boss furious at disallowed goal
Hamilton Academical manager Billy Reid has vented his fury after his side were denied what he claims was a clear goal in their Scottish Premier League clash with Dundee United on Saturday, 6 November.
The sides met at New Douglas Park, where forward Marco Paixao crossed the ball in the first minute of the game for Dougie Imrie to score with a header, but the referee, Calum Murray, awarded a goal-kick after
linesman Lawrence Kerrigan raised his flag, claiming that the ball had gone out of play as it moved through the air.
Dundee United striker David Goodwillie later came off the bench to score the only goal of the game for the visitors 14 minutes before full-time. His strike ensured Hamilton remained in tenth place with nine
points from 11 games.
As a result, Reid was left to rue what he felt was a bad decision by the referee.
'Wee bit miffed and peeved'
He told reporters that: "I'm a wee bit miffed and peeved. If the ref makes a call and makes a mistake, I'll put up with that because he's 20 yards away. But he didn't make the call. The linesman did from
60 yards away and he's looking through two goal-posts, a ruck of legs and a goal net — and he calls the ball out.
"If he makes that call the ball has got to be well over the line. TV evidence proved it wasn't and players said that at the time. I don't know whether the goalie would have come out for the ball as play went
on but we put it in the net in the first minute of the match.”
The result means that Hamilton have yet to win a game at home in the league this season and the lie just a point ahead of bottom-placed St Mirren.
