Hamilton for Volquez?

Some guy offered me Josh Hamilton for Edinson Volquez. These are basically the two best players @ their positions in the league this year. Should I do it?

  1. Take Hamilton. Volquez will cool down soon.

  2. The Reds and Texas thought it was a good deal in the off season and it has worked out for both those teams. Depends on what you need if your team needs offense and already has good pitching then go for it.

  3. It has been my experience that you can hide a weakness on a fantasy pitching staff more easily than you can a weakness in your batting lineup.  Hamilton has consistently hit, and hit with power.  While he could slow down (I would expect him too), he is seeing the ball too well to not finish the year in the top group (20-30) of fantasy batters.

While Volquez is on fire, you can give him up and compensate by picking up (depending on how big your league is) a decent free agent SP or quality middle reliever (check the availability of Marmol, Wheeler, Linebrink).

The only reason to not make this trade is if your batting lineup is already stacked or if your league is unevenly weighted to favor strong pitching over strong hitting.

  4. It depends how much depth you have at SP and the OF.

  5. If you have hamilton i would keep him he is the better of the two.
