Hamilton leaves Spa with another victory and a big smile
As the McLaren driver, Lewis Hamilton, returns from Spa, Belgium with another chequered flag, he talked to the press, revealing his experiences over the weekend.
Hamilton started off saying that the weekend had been better than what he actually expected. He was quick to add that it was a very tough race no doubt for himself as well as for everyone else present on the tack. He was happy that the race ended smoothly despite the tricky conditions created by rain after the initial laps.
The cold wet track causes tyres to lose temperature and makes it tough for the driver to know how much he can push in each of the corners. Hamilton explained the situation saying that he braked really late locking his wheel when he went wide at the eighth turn, which he considers to be a miracle as he was able to get away with that adventurous move safely.
He was happy to exclaim that the team did a remarkable job this weekend which made them win the race despite the fact that they were not as fast as the other cars yet they were able to pace up when they were in a tight chase.
While recalling the rain showers he explained that it became a difficult call as when the team told him that there is rain coming, he did not expect it to be that heavy but the clouds kept growing darker and thicker. However, he said that he was fortunate to get his tyres changed having a fantastic pit stop, “The best one I have had this year and I guess that’s what helped get us out there”.
He went on to say that this victory is a blessing for him as this had not only given him the first victory at Spa but had also brought him to the top of the charts which gave him reason to smile.
He very happily stated, “I love racing. It is in my blood. I missed it so much in the break and what the whole team works for is that win”.
He was joyful to state that it is a complete surprise for the entire team to have found that they were very competitive, even if not the fastest at times yet fast enough when it mattered.
Moreover, he declared that this track had been one that he had always wished to conquer and now it was a great feeling to have achieved this job.
He was quick to add that he feels sorry for the fact that his teammate Jenson Button ended pointless as for any team a perfect weekend is to see both its drivers get a one two finish.
Button was doing brilliantly initially it seemed he would claim second place but things turned out differently for him on the fifteenth lap when he had to retire owing to an accident.
At the conclusion of the interview Hamilton was asked if he considers Webber to be the only strong rival of the title this season, he replied that nothing for sure could be said at the moment.
He cleared his statement saying that there is no doubt about Webber being the other strongest contender. Nevertheless, the season had seen so many uncertainties and things had changed so dramatically that predicting anything is impossible.
He further added that all the top five people are equally competent and things might take any dramatic twist anytime.
Well, what-so-ever is going to happen in future races, so far the weekend has left a big smile on Hamilton’s face which will most probably stay there till the next race.
