Hamilton says Vettel was very fast in qualifying of 2011 Italian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has said that Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel was very quick in qualifying round 3 of the 2011 Italian Grand Prix.
Hamilton added that Vettel’s fastest time was untouchable in the final qualifying session.
The Red Bull driver set the fastest time of 1 minute and 22.275 seconds in Q3 at the Monza racetrack on Saturday, September 10, 2011 in Italy.
The German was closely followed by Hamilton, who has a gap of 0.450 seconds from Vettel and secured a second place for Sunday’s race as well.
The Brit mentioned that he does not think he could have managed a pole position for the Italian race weekend, as Vettel was very far ahead of him in the closing time of Q3.
Hamilton commented, “I didn't have another half a second in the bag. We had a couple of tenths up on the car. The guys did a fantastic job to bring new components to the circuit, and we were very competitive. We looked like we would be quite competitive
through the weekend but today on the last lap he was untouchable.”
After a successful morning Friday Practice session, Hamilton could not retain his top position in FP2 and FP3, as the current world champion was faster among all drivers in both the sessions.
Apart from that, the 26-year-old driver stated that he is happy with his second place for Sunday’s race. After a strong qualifying round at Monza, Hamilton is confident for the 2011 Italian race.
He went on to say, “It is a long race tomorrow. The target is to finish. In the race I think we will be able to finish up quite high. I am pretty happy to be back up there getting another opportunity to have another good race tomorrow and hopefully things
turn out better than the last race.”
Hamilton was not able to complete the last race of the 2011 Formula 1 season in Belgium, as he retired from the Grand Prix.
Let’s see how he manages his Monza race on Sunday, after a decent start to the race weekend.
