Hamilton vs. Webber: The biggest rivals set two fast laps
The McLaren driver, Lewis Hamilton set the fattest pace at the first practice session today (Monday) in Korea while Mark Weber of Red Bull was the quickest in the second.
The Formula One caravan has rallied once again, this time to unfold the seventeenth race of the season. This Sunday is ready to hold yet another exciting and thrilling round of the 2010 season at the newly-built Korean International Circuit.
The Friday morning saw all the teams come together for the very first driving venture on this track. Two practices for the Korean Grand Prix were held today, one in the morning for 90 minutes and the second one later in the afternoon.
As the drivers explored the freshly completed track, under the bright morning sun of October, powder and dust particles glistened in the air all around the venue. The construction work on the track has completed only two weeks back and the freshly made track
has not got a lot of time to settle down. However, the track cruised through it all morning taming it and getting friendly with it. With every passing lap the surface seemed to get better and more acquainted to the rubber of the tyres.
The first practice session saw the McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton conquer the track as he set the fastest lap. The garage workers kept his car buried inside for a long while as they provided it with the latest version of rear wing along with improving the
grip of the car. All this worked brilliantly for the driver and he had been able to beat all the other cars as he marched pass them to set the fastest lap only in the last 10 minutes of morning session.
On the other hand, the second practice session saw the Red Bull driver Mark Webber lead the caravan. The team had been able to demonstrate great pace all through the season and surely possess the fastest car of 2010. Besides a few tracks, the team’s RB6
went fast and furious all through the season while its rivals failed to chase it time and again.
The forthcoming Korean Grand Prix is no doubt one of the most awe-inspiring and sensational races of the season. The year is to see only three more rounds now and this third last round is thought to be the decisive one. The past sixteen races have shown
a lot of uncertainty and surprise one after the other right from its start. The championship standings have changed so dramatically and impulsively that now as only three races are left one is simply unable to make any prediction for the rest of the season.
The two drivers that have conquered the track at the first two practices, Hamilton and Webber, have also dominated the points’ tally all through the season. For a very long time during the season the tug had been the toughest between these two. There were
even times when these two violent warriors were thought to be left in the arena for the final tug, however, more twists and turns kept coming in the points’ graph.
The last five races had been very strange for Hamilton. The British driver lost three of the last five races and was hardly able finish the Japanese Grand Prix at 5th place. The pointless finish in Hungary, Italy and Singapore dropped him from
his initial top place to the current 4th.
On the other hand, Webber kept moving on quite consistently and still stands at the top of the tally with his 220 points and 4 race wins, while Hamilton has 3 wins and 192 points under his belt. With three more races and 75 more points to play, let’s see
if Hamilton would be able to bounce back or Webber would keep his dominance or the hopes of both would be crushed by any of the other top drivers.
