Hamish Bennett seeks more pace in his bowling
The New Zealand pacer Hamish Bennett, who made his maiden international appearance in the recent one-day series against Bangladesh, opined that his next target is to add more pace to his bowling.
Bennett played in two of the five One Day Internationals picking up three wickets at a bowling average of 24.33 and an economy of 4.56 an over, was satisfied with his debut stint at the international arena.
"I'm pretty happy to get three wickets", Bennett, who was astonished at his call-up to the national side last month, told media reporters. "I gave it everything I had, and I have no regrets over how I played".
The 23-year-old Bennett made his first-class debut against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wellington-c864 in 2005 while playing for Canterbury. In 33 first-class appearances, Bennett picked up 91 wickets at an average of 37.30 and an economy rate of 3.65.
He has also been a steady performer for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canterbury-c775 in their one-day assignments claiming 27 one-day wickets from 23 games. But it was his ability to deliver in the mid-140 kph range that New Zealand skipper said would be quite helpful
for the side if he proves himself at the international level.
Bennett said the coaches had given him a free hand to test his pace by bowling as fast as he could during his spells in the nets as well as in the ground against the Bengali tigers. "They said I would probably get a couple of games
to see what I could do, and they told me to just to focus on my pace, and that's all I tried to do. I didn't worry about my economy rate, I just looked to bowl fast".
New Zealand faced a humiliating 4-0 ODI whitewash in the hands of listless Bangladesh side and the result dropped the Black Caps to seventh place in the ODI rankings of ICC, their lowest ranking since November 2005.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 Cricket board will meet with Coach Mark Greatbatch, skipper Vettori and high performance director, Mr. Roger Mortimer, tomorrow to review the winless trip. Bennett refused to comment on the possible outcomes of the devastating
Bangladesh trip but said the cricketing conditions of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 were quite challenging, specifically for a debutant.
"I knew things weren't going to be easy, and you had to be mentally quite tough. You weren't going to bounce guys out, but if you ran-in hard and hit the deck, then you could get some variable bounce”.
He hailed the enthusiasm of the Bangladesh crowd towards their home team. Bennett called them remarkable supporters: “…even when they scored a run, it was like they had won the World Cup”.
New Zealand would tour India next month for a Test and ODI series, and the pacer was quite positive about his prospects of making the squad for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 tour.
