Okay so in the movie, Ofelia screamed after Hamlet said " Get thee to a nunnery." Why did she scream?

  1. Ophelia was in love with Hamlet, and he was calling her a prostitute ironically. He was being sarcastic and tormenting her because he knew Claudius was spying on him. She got mad and upset because she had just been maltreated by the man she loved.


  2. It depends on which Hamlet movie it is. Some movies portray Ophelia as actually crazy. Others show her digression into craziness driven there by Hamlet.  He is saying to Ophelia his love that she should be sent away so that she can never have sons like Hamlet. She screams out of frustration, and hurt. Hamlet is sometimes interpreted to be cruel to Ophelia to save her from his madness.
