Hammer ons and pull off technique?

i am teaching myself to play the electric guitar. i am having trouble with my technique on hammer ons and pull offs..ive never really seen or been taught any proper way to do it. when i do it, it is barely audible. even with the amp up. it can barely be heard. if anyone has any tips i would appreciate it.

  1. Hammer ons are most audible when you fret one note with your index finger and then hammer with your third or pinky, after you hammer, you can pull down off the string(like plucking it) to resonate the root note again. Just practice brother, you can also do the open hammer on. Try picking the D string open and hammer and pull off on the E note(2nd) fret. Get it mastered and then flick your tounge in sync with the notes at your next show, Rock and Roll at its finest!
