http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hampshire-c789 left to rue conditions after CL T20 exit – Cricket News Update
Following their successive losses in the qualifying stage of the Champions League T20, Hampshire’s stand-in-skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jimmy-Adams-c1696 admitted that conditions were hardly to his side’s liking and lamented ECB’s decision of pulling out from future CL T20 tournaments.
The Royals finished bottom of their pool after defeat in last night’s clash against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Auckland-c766 Aces, who had already booked their passage to the tournament proper, which begins this Saturday, after overcoming the Stallions.
Their failures were a result of poor batting in both their matches. They were twice put into bat but fell short of a par score. In the first game, they managed a lowly 121 with only one batter crossing the 20-run mark and another poor effort in yesterday’s encounter saw them being restricted to 143.
The bowlers then failed to pick regular wickets, and consequently the side suffered eight and six-wicket losses respectively. Much was also down to the conditions, where the pitch offered extra bite in the early half before easing out for the latter parts of the match.
Hampshire was at the receiving end both times, as they were asked to bat by their opponents. Adams, who was deputizing in the absence of original skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AD-Mascarenhas-c912, said that conditions indeed played a part to his side’s eventual downfall.
“The guys have found it a bit tough. The batters found it hard to get the runs on the board as the conditions have done a little more than we thought,” he said.
With English counties not taking part in the CL T20 from the next year, as it clashes with their own domestic schedule, Adams further expressed his disappointment over ECB’s stance.
“It is a shame (that counties wont play the Champions League t20 in the future) but it’s out of my hands. We just chug along and play cricket.”
The other http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yorkshire-c867, has qualified for the main round after beating Uva Next and Trinidad & Tobago in the other qualifying pool.
