Hampshire have released versatile batsman Chris Benham after a 17-year association with the county side.
Benham is now a free agent ahead of next season and a number of division one county championship sides will already be approaching the player with contract deals.
"Hampshire is a great club with huge ambition. Personally, I still have a huge desire to play cricket at the highest level. I see playing in a new environment with different ideas as a very exciting prospect,"
he said.
Benham can offer a lot to a new county and he can use the frustration of playing only six times in the four-day game last season positively. There is no need for any rushed decision as the player has all
winter to find a new team.
An exciting opportunity
Benham will represent an exciting ppportunity to any county in division one of the county championship. Benham can play a number of different roles and will appeal to a county looking for an opening batsman
or a solid middle order player.
Benham's first-class average is not as good as it should be at 27.31. He will be aware of this and will see it as something to focus and improve on. This ensures any county looking at signing him will
be guaranteed a player that will put in a tremendous amount of effort and work hard.
It's not as easy to switch counties at 27-years-old as it is at a younger age. Benham will be settled in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hampshire-c789 and needs to make the right geographical move for himself and his family. Therefore he
shouldn't feel rushed into making a decision on his future.
"As the squad has strengthened opportunities for Chris have become limited. However, he has a good feel for the game and has never given anything but 100 per cent for the Hampshire cause, and I would like
to thank him for his input," added Hampshire manager Giles White.
