Hampshire had set a solid target of 155 runs for Durham in a Quarter-Final match of the Friends Life Twenty20 at The Rose Bowl, Southampton in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 on Sunday, August 7, 2011.
Durham had a very good batting line-up, but the team was under extreme pressure to chase more than 150 against a very strong bowling opposition. The team’s batsmen failed to cope up with the pressure and were all pout for 99 runs in 18.3 overs.
Only four batsmen in the visitors’ innings managed to reach double figures and none of them even managed to score in the thirties. The highest score of the innings came from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ben-Stokes-c1142, who ended up with 28 runs.
The pitch had become a touch difficult for the batsmen in the second half of the match. The ball was coming onto the bat a bit slower compared to the first innings of the match.
However, the conditions were still good for the batsmen, as there was not much movement for the bowlers both in the air and off the seam.
Durham’s innings was started by wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gordon-Muchall-c1499. The pair put together 22 runs for the first wicket before the latter was sent back to the pavilion after adding just 5 runs to the total.
Just a couple of runs later, Mustard was also dismissed. The keeper batsman managed 12 runs off 15 deliveries in his unimpressive outing.
The innings was stabilised by Stokes and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/David-Lawson-Miller-c53037, as the pair collected 36 runs for the third wicket partnership. They were under immense pressure though, as the required run-rate was getting higher with the passage of time.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Miller-c76318 failed to cope up with the pressure and gave his wicket away after adding 10 runs to the total off 13 deliveries. He was followed by Stokes in the same over. He got out after top scoring the innings with 28 runs from 23 balls. The first-drop batsman
struck a couple of fours and one six in his cameo innings.
Durham’s skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dale-Benkenstein-c1302 was also unable to rescue his side from trouble and was the fifth wicket to fall in the innings. He managed just 3 runs in his short stay at the wicket.
Wickets kept on tumbling in the innings, as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LE-Plunkett-c1833 got out in single figures. The trio scored 4, 9 and 7 in their respective outings.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scott-Borthwick-c2466, who ended up with 11 runs down the order.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danny-Briggs-c1315 was the pick of the bowlers for Hampshire, picking up five wickets in the match for 19 runs.
