Hampshire v Durham: Friends Life Twenty20 – Quarter-Final – Hampshire’s Innings
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 on Sunday, August 7, 2011.
Batting first, the home team collected 154 runs for the loss of six wickets in their allotted 20 overs. The highlight of the innings was a solid half-century from South Africa’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Neil-McKenzie-c2094, who top scored the innings with 56 runs.
In reply, the Durham batting failed miserably, as the team was all out for 99 runs in less than 19 overs. Only four batsmen managed to reach double figures in the innings with a highest score of 28 from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ben-Stokes-c1142.
Earlier, the toss was won by Hampshire’s skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dominic-Cork-c1390, who had no hesitation in his mind to bat first. The pitch was expected to play better in the first half, but get lower and slower in the second. This allowed the home team to post a decent target
for the opposition and go onto win the match.
Hampshire’s start was terrible, as the team lost a few wickets early in the innings. Pakistan’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 was promoted at the top of the order to open the innings, but got out in the most unfortunate manner.
The flamboyant player was run-out without even facing a single delivery in his outing. He was followed by the team’s first-drop http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Vince-c1657, who managed 10 runs off 11 balls in his short stay at the wicket.
Opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jimmy-Adams-c1696, who was earlier involved in a terrible mix-up with Afridi, was also run-out after getting a start. He collected 20 runs off 19 deliveries with the help of two fours and one six.
The hosts were in a spot of bother, losing three batsmen for just 37 runs on the board. However, the innings was out on track by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sean-Ervine-c2471, as the pair collected a half-century partnership.
They scored 66 runs for the fourth wicket stand, guiding the team’s total above 100 before Ervine was sent back to the pavilion. The Zimbabwean batsman was the third man to be run-out in the innings, as Hampshire displayed some miserable running between
the wickets in the match.
Ervine played well though, scoring 35 runs off 30 balls with the help of four fours and one massive six.
McKenzie did not miss out on an opportunity to make a solid impression for his side, as the South African went onto make a very good half-century. He was dismissed in the final over of the innings after scoring 56 runs from 44 deliveries. The Proteas batsman
struck four fours and a couple of huge sixes in his impressive outing.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mitchell-Claydon-c1973 bowled extremely well for Durham, as he picked up two wickets for 15 runs in his three-over spell. However, the hosts got away with a solid total of 154 runs in the end.
