With Hampshire faltering on a total of 292 runs, it was time for Kent to begin their innings and post a big total in reply to Hampshire’s ton.
Openers, SA Northeast and RWT Key gave their side an astounding opening by piling a record-breaking total of 252 runs together.
The batsmen took charge right from the start, hammering the bowlers remorselessly in order to dominate the opposition.
Hampshire bowlers were left without any ideas, as the batsmen countered their every move to avoid the fall of wickets.
SM Ervine became the first bowler to taste success by nabbing the wicket of Northeast, who found his way off the field after jabbing an enormous innings of 140 runs.
Number-three batsman, BW Harmison, then took the field in a bid to continue his side’s belligerent batting onslaught. However, the batsman met his doom on a tally of eight runs off 40 deliveries. At the time of his wicket, Kent had amassed a total of 273 runs.

From Hampshire, Tomlinson was the best bowler with three wickets to his name in 19.2 overs.
With wickets still in hand, Kent have the capacity of posting a big total by the end of their first innings to impose nerve wreaking pressure on Hampshire.
