http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, on Friday, July 22, 2011.
The hosts had scored 213 in their first innings, courtesy an unbeaten 97 from star South African batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Neil-McKenzie-c2094.
In reply, Nottinghamshire only managed 183 runs in their first outing of the match, giving a 30-run lead to the opposition. None of the team’s batsman managed to reach a half-century in the innings and the top score came from middle-order batsman Steven
Mullaney, who collected 36 runs.
The first day of the match was washed out due to rain, which had left some moisture beneath the surface of the pitch. This made conditions difficult for the batsmen. The wicket also offered a lot of grip and turn for the spinners.
The conditions remained difficult for the batsmen on the third day, which restricted the visitors to a lesser total.
Nottinghamshire’s start to the innings was a dismal one, as they lost three wickets cheaply for just 18 runs on the board. Opening batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Neil-Edwards-c2092 was the first man to be dismissed after adding just eight runs to the total.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Riki-Wessels-c2319, who managed just seven runs in his outing.
The innings was stabilised by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Voges-c925, who put together 52 runs for the fourth wicket partnership. The latter was unable to make most of the start he got to his innings and was dismissed after contributing 30 runs to the total.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Huzefa-Mohammed-Patel-c63657 also failed to carry onto the start he got and was sent back to the pavilion after collecting 33 runs. His wicket left half of the visitors’ batsmen back in the hut for 101 runs on the board.
Mullaney looked solid for his 36 runs with the help of four boundaries, but he too was unable to capitalise on the start to his innings and was the sixth wicket to fall in Nottinghamshire’s innings.
Wicketkeeper batsman, Chris Read, scored 20 runs, smashing three boundaries, but was unable to make a significant impact. He was followed by New Zealand’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andre-Adams-c1033, who managed just five runs in his short outing.
Graeme White and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Darren-Pattinson-c1321 scored 25 and 17 runs towards the end of the innings, guiding the total to 183 until all wickets fell.
Hampshire’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danny-Briggs-c1315 was the star of the show with the ball, scalping six wickets in the innings.
