Somerset on Tuesday, hammered a staggering total of 228 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 40 overs against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hampshire-c789 in their Clydesdale Bank 40 - Group B match, at The Rose Bowl, Southampton.
Hampshire chose to field after on winning the toss, as they wanted to restrict the batting side on a small total to give their batsmen an easy target to chase.
Somerset openers ME Trescothick and PD Trego were a bit disappointing as they could bolster only seven runs together, before allowing Hampshire to make a breakthrough with Trescothick perishing after scoring only two runs.
Trego and CR Jones then charged the bowlers and steered the side to a total of 80 runs, before the batting side suffered the loss of their second wicket when Trego was dismissed by DR Briggs after belting a fiery knock of 61 runs off just 31 deliveries.
Then with 93 on the board, Somerset lost the services of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jones-c69217, who had his stumps shattered by DA Griffiths after amassing 24 runs.
JC Hildreth and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jonathan-Clare-c1729 Buttler then forged a potent resistance against the bowling attack, and took the score to a total of 130 runs.
SM Ervine then stepped in and shattered Hildreth’s stumps, who hit the showers after playing an innings of 16 runs.
AV Suppiah then lost his wicket cheaply, as he fell after scoring only four runs off 16 deliveries.
With the bowling side making a steady comeback, Buttler remained undeterred and kept hammering the bowlers from his end.
The batsman was supported by AWR Barrow, who remained unbeaten at the end of the innings on a score of 29.
Meanwhile. Buttler after hammering a knock of 51 runs, became Somerset’s sixth wicket to fall, leaving his side standing on a total of 180 runs.
Somerset, nonetheless, still managed to amass an intimidating total on the board and now Hampshire have all to play for in order to win the game.
From the fielding side, SM Ervine was the ace bowler with three wickets to his name.
