Hamsik ecstatic with the victory and thanks the fans for their support
Napoli midfielder, Marek Hamsik, is overjoyed after helping his side to qualify for the last 16 round of the UEFA Champions League.
Walter Mazzarri’s men beat Villarreal 2-0 in the last group stage game of the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, December 7th, 2011. The Azzurri needed to better the result of Manchester City to qualify for
the next round and second half strikes from Gokhan Inler and Hamsik ensured their route to the last 16.
The Slovakian is ecstatic with the result and revealed that it was like playing at home. There were some nervous moments in the game for the Italian outfit but they finally managed to break the deadlock in the 65th minute.
“We played the whole game with certain intensity and got a prestigious result, as Villarreal never gave up and really put up a fight.”
Hamsik believes that the club has re-written the history books and they have proved that they are capable of playing at the top level. The former Brescia star admitted that the team heard about Manchester City taking the lead in
the first half but it did not bother them and they looked to play their natural game.

In the other game of the group, Manchester City beat group toppers, Bayern Munich by 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium. Napoli finished 2nd in the group and will now face any of the winners of the group stages.
