  1. now i dont know a lot about hamsters but there are a couple of things it can be and all of them require vet help.    it could just be he hurt his eye with something but it could become infected, it could also be, and i dont want to say it but, a tumor which around the wouldn't affect anything but could be very dangerous.

best advice is take him to avet and get him checked out.

sorry im not that much help, hope he gets better.

  2. It might have something like our people version of pink eye. If you can keep rinsing in off with a warm papertowel thats soft. You also could call the vet and see if there is anything over the counter you could use to help it heal. Hope it gets better. Poor thing :(  Maybe try also something that you use when you have something in your eye. But way less than a drop. Just put it on your finger and wipe it across his eye. Ive done that with my cats before but not sure if it will work for an animal that small or not.

  3. I guess you have to bring him to a vet. =\

  4. Read the following symptoms and observations and see if it matches with your hammy's symptoms, then you con confirm if he has conjuctivities -

    Eye (Swollen, Closed)

    Symptoms:

One or both eyes remaining shut even when hamster is awake.

Matted or messy fur near eye as a result of watery eye.

'Crusty eyes' - Visible foreign deposits on slit of eyelids.

The problem could be either Conjunctivtis (Reddish or pinkish colour on eye not present previously) or Respiratory Problem

Causes: Infection or irritation caused by dirty environment (for example, dirty cage or bedding). Ensure pine or cedar bedding is not used. Closed or swollen eye sometimes comes together with respiratory infection.

Remedy: Obtain Bausch and Lomb soothing eye wash (obtainable from local pharmacy) and let 1 or 2 drops fall directly on the eye using the spout. Let your hamster rub it in himself (he will!). Repeat twice daily. Alternatively, wash the hamster's eye with this home-made remedy: Add one teaspoon of boric acid to half a cup of boiled and cooled down water. Using an eye dropper, bathe the eye 2 or 3 times a day with it.

Listed ingredients in the Bausch and Lomb soothing eye wash are:

boric acid, sodium borate and sodium chloride; preserved with sorbic acid (0.1%) and edetate disodium (0.025%) with the boric acid being the active ingredient.

If the eye does not show any signs of recovery in 2-3 days, consult a vet as a more serious health issue could be present. Sometimes an impacted cheekpouch can cause watering/closed eyes, as can overgrown teeth.

If your hamster's eye is swollen but not watering or sticky, there have been corneal ulcers, and ingrown eyelashes (called "entropion").

If he has a bump, it could also mean a tumour or cancer and has to be checked by the vet.

  5. if its something like that than most likely some home the eye got infected you need to take it to the vet (yes small animal vets do this stuff its the same vet a dog would go to) and get it some medicine so it doesn't get so  bad that it dies.
