I give her a new wood chew, sometimes two wood chews, every week. I also give her those big blocks of food that she chews on... but I think they are still getting too long. And she doesn't knaw on her wood chews I give her. Never. I don't know if I need to take her into the vet or not.

  1. Mine wouldn't chew on the wood chews either.  Try soaking them in apple juice and letting them dry in the sun.  If you still can't get her to chew take her to the vet to have her teeth trimmed.

  2. keep trying if not ring the vet they may be able to do something just keep a eye on how long they are hope this helped =)

  3. Hamster teeth are naturally long like that because they need all that teeth for chew through tough food. You should try posting a picture if you think they are too long. If you are referring to the bottom 2 teeth, then they are fine, they are supposed to be that long.

  4. take her to the vet and they will file them down it doesnt hurt them but it can be very painful for them if they get too long as they will start growing back into the mouth from the outside

  5. a lot of hamsters don't like to chew on their wood chews. and sometimes it seems like they chew on everything but what they should. you can buy edible hideaways, hutches and logs, sometimes you can buy them at walmart. thats what i gave my hamster that didnt like the chews. she slept in it and chewed the edges. it was like tricking her because it looked like something she wasn't supposed to chew on. another thing you can try is buying the flavored chews that have wholes in them, and attach them to the cage with a twist tie or something, so its not just laying on the floor. or even cut a piece of cardboard and stick it in the wires so it doesn't move much, he wont consume it, just chew on it, thats what i do with my gerbils.

if nothing works then take her to the vet.

  6. Some small animals will REFUSE to chew on wood or mineral chews. The only option you have is to bring them to a vet to have them clipped down regularly. If you don't, the teeth will start cutting into the lower jaw. It shouldn't cost much since there's no anesthesia or shots, just a quick clip/file, but make sure the vet has done it before or specializes in small animals. Just call around and ask.

  7. Keep trying, for about a week or so if you can't make any progress, I'm pretty sure you can get them grinded down a bit at the vet.
