I have one hamster now and i wanted to get a female to breed them. Where can I get some good info for hamster mating. If you can also point out some tips. The one I have now has been with me for around two weeks. I was going to get a girl and introduce them. I really need to know exactly how and WHEN to introduce them especially.

  1. go to www.petfinder.com and adopt a female, than breed them.

i would not recomend breeding them. there are soooooo many unwanted animals out there.

rodents can breed EVERY 21 DAYS

so as soon as they open there eyes and are weened, seperate the boys and girls, or they will breed again!!!

DONT BREED THEM, UNLESS YOU HAVE HOMES PICKED OUT BEFORE HTEY ARE BORN!!!!!

  2. You should really think before you breed. There are lots of homeless animals in shelters and on the streets because so many people have bred their animals carelessly but have there are not enough people to take them in.

Think about the millions of animals who are waiting to be adopted by a good family while there are still people out there breeding. So many animals have had to be put down because of this.

  3. If you want more information on how to breed hamsters, you should probably ask the people at the petstore where you're going to buy the female. Most likely both the hamsters will get along, so it won't take alot to introduce them. My advice would be to introduce them for a few minutes a few times a day and then lengthen the time they're together. Then just let them go at it and they should be making babies in no time!! :)

  4. Why are you breeding? Think about it. Breeding is not a game... it's not a matter of just putting a male and female animal together. Mess with the wrong genes and breed the wrong animals and you could end up with some very sick babies. Do you know the mom and dad's genetic/health history at least three generations back? Pet store animals should never be bred, you know nothing about their health background. It doesn't matter if they seem healthy now or the vet gave them a clean bill of health... it's what's in their genes. There are more than enough small animals in shelters and rescues without more poorly bred ones being added to the overpopulation. There's a lot more to breeding responsibly than you might think. Please read and make a responsible decision:

  5. Why do you want to breed them?

Just remember hamsters can have many babies and they grow quickly. Hamsters cannot be kept together after a certain age otherwise they will fight and/or have MORE babies. They each need there own cages.

Here is a website you can get information on:

  6. Then tell your friends to adopt an already existing hamster that needs a home. Don't breed just because you can or want babies. Where did you get your hamster? Does she have a pedigree and do you know her parents' history? Reputable breeders breed for health. Throwing together two hamsters is not a smart thing to do.

While you may love your pets and may want more just like them, this is not a good reason to breed them. Are you prepared to care for the huge number of babies (up to 20 in some litters)? Do you have space to keep all of them yourself? What will happen if all those friends that want babies from your hamsters decide they don’t want them after all? What if they decide they don’t want them a year from now? The pet shop might sell your babies to feed a snake—can you send them there? What happens if your female has trouble with the delivery? What if she dies? How will you feel?
