Recently my syrian has been acting differently, she is less active and sleeps a lot more.. i thought it might of been because of her diet so i gave her different foods but did'nt help

When she is awake she is fine and still on her wheel etc and there is nothing noticely wrong on her..

Could she be ill?

  1. she could  be but maybe u should take her to the vet

  2. The first thing I'd like to know is how old your Hamster is. I wouldn't change the food so long as it has worked before. Change the chips in your cage twice as often, and do an extra good job of washing the cage and it's contents. Wash the bowl and water bottle every day until it gets better. Make sure your Hamster is in a warm spot with no draft.

  3. she could be preparing to hibernate =] but take her to the vet just in case

  4. Here go on myu website then click the page link that says hamster sickenesses Read them and see if you hammie has any of the symptoms here my site link: http://my-ham-dolce.piczo.com/?cr=2

  5. my hamster died a few days ago - she looked like she was sleeping in her bedding, I touched her, but she didn't move, when I picked her up, she was weak and cold, she died hours later. xx

Sorry to be morbid, your hamster may be fine, just tired or changing her sleep pattern, if you're too worried take her to the vets for a check up, but I mean if she is still quite active, then I think she'll be fine. xx

  6. If you're worried you can take her to a vet, they should know if she is or not.

  7. I use to work for our local animal shelter & still take on the old& odd syrian hamsters. firstly how old is your hamster? over a year & they r middle aged. keep the diet the same but add  changes to it, ie, cucumber, peaches nuts in shells. & remember if its humid outside then they can be sluggish. also have you changed alittle ie, take hammy outta cage less often. if our humours change then either theirs do or we think theirs do.

    Gee

u sound like a wonderful pet owner so dont worry.

the main hamster ailments r, mites

wet tail, tumours. all r easy to spot & easy to look up on the net

    good luck!!

  8. Well, before my hamster died it's eyes liked closed shut. It looked like he had bubble gum in his eyes. It might just be getting older and less active

  9. hamsters are sleepers during the day. it is quite normal to never see them active during the day, theyre always sleeping and being lazy. once night hits though they are very active.

  10. Good news - she is not ill, she is simply growing up....

When hamsters are very young babies they are absolutely crazy.  They run around everywhere at lightning speed and they don't have a proper routine for when they sleep and when they are awake.  As they grow out of their "childhood" (which is a phase of life that doesn't last very long at all in a hamster) they slow down into a more relaxed pace of life and settle into a more normal hamster-ish routine (i.e. sleeping during the day and waking at night).
