my hamster who is 2 years old has a sudden leg issue. ii noticed that her left front leg was missing fur on the front and was very swollen, red with what looked like a tiny scabbish area. (i mean super tiny). i called the vet to C if there was anything i could do to help her leg at home until we got an appointment, but they had no suggestions. now her leg is a little more swollen and more purple-ish. i removed any platforms and checked for sharp edges in her cage as soon as i noticed her leg, but found nothing. until we get an appointment, does anyone know what might be wrong with her leg or what i can do to help her? thanx

  1. I had a syrian hamster with the same problem. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but my hamster had broken her leg and we decided to have her put to sleep. (it would have cost £700 for pins to be place in her leg) I hope and pray  this is not the case with your hamster.

Sorry I can't tell you what you want to hear.  Hope I am wrong.

  2. First of all, call your local Petco, or PetSmart, or the place you got her from. They might know the condition (Petco helped me A LOT when my hamster was sick). She could have an infection, it's hard to tell. Just make sure she is drinking a lot of water, and make sure you don't force her to play or anything. Good luck!!

  3. check to make sure there isn't a thread or human hair wrapped around her leg higher up the leg that the sore area really look closely if there is clip it off carefully with a pair of nail clippers.

  5. I think that it is broken. But that's just me. It might be something else. Try putting some ice on it to stop the swelling, but just for a couple of minutes every two hours or so. Hope this helps!

  6. If there's any way you can find an emergency vet that would be the best option.  If you don't have access to an emergency vet, or any vet with on call services, then I'm not sure what you can do.

The fact that it is swelling more and is purple is not a good sign.  I definitely second the opinion that you should take a close look at the leg to make sure that nothing is wrapped around it and cutting off circulation.

Other than finding a vet right away the only thing I can think of is to confine her to a smaller space.  Don't let her climb and try to restrict her movement as much as you can.  Make sure that she is eating, try offering her some foods like chicken baby food or boost/ensure meal replacements.  You want her to take in a lot of nutrition and stay hydrated until her appointment tomorrow.  Also, make sure that she stays warm because sometimes their body temps will drop when they are injured.

  7. My hamster scraped his head when he was in his tube and caused it to bleed and form into a scab. You are doing fine! Great Job, just give your hamster comfort.

  8. My suggestion is broken?

  9. eat the legs, they're delicious!

  10. My dog had a similar issue with his leg, it didn't hurt him at all, so I wouldn't worry too much.

  11. You know hamsters only live to be 2 or 3, right? She's probably just slowly dying.

Plus, if that wasn't it, and if you could treat it, there would be no point in spending money on it because your hamster is going to  die soon anyways.

    Sorry!

  12. Take her to the emergency vet RIGHT NOW

    Please!

  13. Its a Hampster bro even if there was a problem they woulden't be able to help her/him because it is to small to operate on and too weak to take pills or any type of medicine they are too small for people to worry about the world has bigger problems like poverty. Sorry Bro

  14. Her organs are shutting down so it's hindering blood flow to her leg. She'll eventually chew it off.

All you can do is have it amputated but it's not going to help. She's 2-years-old, man.
