Hamster Pregnancy Question?

I have a female hamster and i had put the two hamster together the one a short hair (mom) and the (dad) long hair on the 14 of june so i should be having babies soon but she is not getting big but i was thinking maybe there is not a lot of babies inside her but i can see the nipples cumming in and she has a nest and i give her apple pices and carrots and regular food is she having babies she loves to be picked up but now gets a lil scared to be picked up. I know that hamsters have babies around 16-18 days today is 19 days is something wrong or is everything normal when should they be here

It will be fine,Some babys may be a little late,or she may not be pregnet!

Hey, we had the same  problem before( my short haired syrian was also like yours) i read all information about hamster pregnancies and it seems that she isnt pregnant at all! at the 19th day, id given up in trying to give her some treats while shes standing and her nipples arent showing, but it seems that if it is light-coloured it will be HARD for you to see her nipples 'coming' out) and mine seemed like she didnt have any babies because her stomach isnt big, BUT DONT BE FOOLED, mine gave birth a couple of days ago

and i was really surprised, mine had 6 babies and 3 died. But are you sure that they mated? if not, you get 50/50. and is she building a nest? if not, i dont know. give her  a nutrition boost:(even after giving birth) make sure you research about EVERYTHING about new born hamsters and  about breeding them)

Like:

chopped cucumber

pieces of hard boiled egg

wheat bread dipped in milk

lettuce,*MORE LIKE WATERY VEGGIES, JUST LIKE THE CUCUMBER*

and make sure that her hamster food mix or local food is available in order for her to have healthy babies, try giving her some 'ink free and scent-free' pieces of tissue and she'll make a nest, youll be really surprised! i was surprised when mine gave birth. :)

mine has 3 healthy babies crawling in there soft nest because of good ol' cucumber, lettuce , wheat bread with milk,fish and string beans *ok,, too much info right there, LOL*

the mom and dad shouldnt stay together, or the dad will eat the babies, or the mom will eat the dad if she gets pisssed off. :). syrian hamsters are solitary, like*THIS IS MY TERRITORY, GO FIND YOUR OWN* thing.. like that *ROFL*

Im a very experienced hamster breeder. In order to get a hamster pregnant, you need them to take part in intercourse during the females menstural Cycle. That takes place once every 4-6 days. It won't be extremely apparent as to if shes pregnant though. It'll take about 16-19 days and they can have up to 21 babies in one litter. My suggestion is have them do their thing and then separate the mother hamster for 21 days. keep her isolated and somewhere dark. Most pet stores sell Isolation cages with the ride colored sides. When the babies come out, they're eyes weill be covered and they'll be hairless. DO NOT TOUCH THEM! If you do the mother will eat them just leave them alone and don't pu the dad back in.As far as feeding goes, feed when the mother is occupied with something besides her babies. At about three weeks they start walking. I dont reccomend picking them up. they are VERY jumpy and quick and you may drop them. Thats about all I have on the subject. Hope I helped. Oh and I dont recocmend doing this with older hamsters. They're hips arent as wide, making it extremely hard to have the babies. I had a hamster die from this once ='[

Why are you breeding hamsters? Are they from reliable breeding stock? Do you have a mentor? Are you a professional hamster breeder? Or did you just put two pet store animals whose genetic/health history you know nothing about together? Don't be a backyard breeder, there are more than enough homeless animals right now.
