Hamster Putting food in the wheel?

I just bought the Super Pet Snap-On wheel to put on my Crittertrail 2 cage to make more space since my hamster is getting bigger. But the only problem i have is that he puts food in the wheel. And it doesn't fall through. I never had a problem sleeping until my hamster started doing this. And i feel really bad that i have to take the wheel out. Any ideas?

He's putting his food there because he's storing it. hamsters do this sometimes there's no way to stop him.

Are you talking about the type of wheel thats not in the cage but s like a tube thing. I would try cleaning the cage out. Then when you put him in the cage with fresh bedding and food don't put the wheel in the cage. Wait another day and then attach the wheel. This way he will have already started storing his food some where else. This works with me when i had a similar problem.

Also you can try putting the two wheels in the cage if you have the room this way if he wants to store his food in the wheel he can run on the other wheel.

You can also try putting a hide away house in there and put some food in there when you first clean it out that way you will be promting him to hoard his food there.

Take the wheel out? My hamster had the same problem, and slept in the wheel, too. Get a different wheel that doesn't curve up like that. I have this one (Takes up slightly more space, but works fabulously) http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.js...

It fits in the same spot, and can hook onto the wall or set on the ground :) There really isn't another option,

I've had 4 hamsters so far, and I find that they all do that, I thought maybe they did this because they are fairly lazy. If they wake up when they are sleeping they might want something to eat, and they grab it from there, that is if your hamsters sleep in the wheel. Since all of my hamsters stored their food there, it must be something they all do, and you may not be able to get rid of this problem. But there are a few options, talk to a vet, even though it's just a hamster, or place the cage in another room so you wouldn't have to hear this noise, but make sure the new room is the temperature of your bedroom. I hope you can get some sleep and enjoy your hamster. =)

There's nothing wrong with that! ;] my hamster puts his stash in a tube, but that's no problem.. Don't worry about it, it's what hamsters do and your hamster is making the best of his environment.
