Question:

Hamster Supplies Questions?

I am thinking about getting a hamster and I'm pretty sure I will be. I have taken the time to check out all of the supplies needed like bedding, food, a hamster ball, a cage, etc. But I am not sure about the cage...I have had my eye on the Super Pet Critter Trail Two. I have also looked at a few others and have taken them into consideration also. I have read reviews on this cage and most were good, but some people said they had problems with the water bottle and wheel. Would you recommend this cage??? If not which one would you recommend?

  1. i have had this EXACT cage with two of my hamsters. i would say don't get this cage. cause at the top of the cage there are two holes. you put the water bottle in one and the other... you put on a cap. the cap doesn't stay on very well. all you do is twist it. well, my hamsters managed to move it the cap just a little bit and got the cap to come of the cage. they escaped. it happened one and a half months ago. i miss my little hammies. so my opinion is to get a cage with out the cap and holes at the top of the cage.

  2. I've had many many rodents in my lifetime.  From experience I find that cages like the one you're interested in stink far too much.  A multi-leveled iron hamster cage works best.  Simple, easy to clean, and won't stink.

You can buy a separate play area with tunnels and such for when the hamster is playing with you.  Better yet making your own obstacle course is cheaper and just as fun.  Use books, paper towels, boxes, anything you can think of.

  3. people will say that it is too small for the hamster. i have seen hamsters live in the just fine. they live long and happy lives. that type of water bottles leek terribly. I wold get one to attach to the side.

  4. I have a critter trail and my hamster bites on the bars of the cage all night! In fact I am switching to a bin cage. Check out the site for more info.

  5. no i wouldnt. personally i hate all plastic cages with the tubing. imagine how your poor little hamster will feel in a cage that is like a green house with the scent of pee in the air? its not pleasent. not to mention the respritory infections it could cause. also its a pain to clean.   wire cages are the easiest to clean because the bottom un hooks and you can just pour the old bedding out. aquariums are pretty good too. just make sure to get it a wheel and chew toys so it stays busy and happy

  6. Well it depends on what hamster your getting for the cage. If you want a syrian hamster then I would suggest a bigger cage cuz they are bigger then dwarves. dwarves can go in the crittertrail 2. I for one have a russian dwarf and the cage I have is the Crittertrail X. The wheel in this cage is pretty quiet, unless your hammy decides to put food and bedding in it. It also has a neat slide. Cleaning it is a little difficult cuz you have to remove the hamster and take all the parts off. The wheel is a little hard to get off. I think the crittertrail 2 is okay, but you can also get a tank. It has less ventilation but its pretty big, a little heavy though. Bin cages are lighter and a little cheaper. DO NOT get a cage with a wire bottom. And if you get a dwarf hamster then you should get a wheel that is solid with no holes cuz it could hurt the hamsters feet. I think the wheel is pretty noisy in the crittertrail 1, 2, and 3. cuz my friend has one of those and it is loud. Hope I helped.
